The Chrysler 300 debuted in 1955 and has forever been cemented in American minds as both a luxury car and a performance vehicle. This full-sized sedan is nothing to be trifled with, considering all the changes that Chrysler made to it prior to releasing the latest model this year. Some of this sedan's most impressive features are typically reserved for heavy-duty trucks, while other features are found in high-end luxury vehicles.
Let's Talk about That Engine
The Chrysler 300C has a 6.4L HEMI V8, an engine more commonly found in heavy-duty trucks. It's the type of engine that delivers incredible power, and in a sedan, it's almost unheard of. However, the 300C was a limited edition, and if you missed your chance to pre-order, you'll have to wait until some show up on a dealership lot or come in as trade-in vehicles.
As for the 300 and 300S, they come with a 5.7L HEMI V8, which isn't as powerful as the engine in the 300C, but it isn't something to sneeze at either. Prior year models did not have the HEMI engine as they were equipped with the V6 engine Chrysler produced at that time.
The AWD System with Axle Disconnect
At first glance, the sound of an axle disconnect sounds terrifying. However, it's not what you think. In fact, this particular design feature is a piece of technology that allows your 300 to switch power to the front or rear axles in the event that traction is suddenly lost.
Sensors in the wheels and axles pick up on the loss of traction and automatically make the switch for you, thereby "disconnecting" an axle in favor of putting more power on the other axle. This is also what allows the Chrysler 300 models to utilize AWD, a feature not commonly found in full-sized sedans.
