This year, the 2023 Ram 1500 is getting a limited trim called the Emergency Medical Service (EMS). Designed as part of Ram's Built to Serve lineup, the EMS edition honors first responders with special designs and United States flag decals on the sides of the bed.
Available in Hydro Blue or Bright White, the 1500 EMS offers a blacked-out front fascia and grille, gray 20-inch aluminum wheels, and black exhaust tips. Inside, the front seats are also decked out with special décor. Also coming standard is a 4x4 Off-Road Group equipment package, which includes tow hooks, underbody skid plates, and an electronic-locking rear differential.
The 2023 model year is also the last time the Ram 1500 will come equipped with a diesel V-6 engine.
The Ram 1500 is available with a V-6 or V-8 powertrain. With each engine option paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission. There's the 305-hp 3.6-liter V-6 attached to a mild-hybrid system, a 260-hp turbocharged 3.0-liter diesel V-6, a 395-hp 5.7-liter V-8, and a 702 hp supercharged 6.2-liter V8.
The EPA estimates that the diesel engine is the most fuel-efficient option as it offers a combined fuel economy of 26 mpg. However, the gas V-6 and V-8 are estimated to top out at around 23 and 20 mpg combined.
For drivers seeking the Ram 1500 for its power, they'll find this vehicle offers plenty. When properly equipped, the Ram 1500 can tow up to 12,750 pounds and carry a payload of up to 2,320 pounds.
Inside the cabin, the Ram 1500 has plenty of room for stowage and good passenger space. Higher trims add upscale materials and amenities, giving the Ram a more luxurious feel. Most models have upscale features such as heated and ventilated seats and a panoramic sunroof.
